Decomposing numbers 11-20 using 10 Frames and Base 10 blocks, Addition/Subtraction

Grades K,1,2

Decomposing numbers 11-20 with Ten Frames and Base 10 Blocks helps students deepen their understanding and find relations and strategies that improve their mental math skills.

We have created some printable and digital cards to practice decomposing numbers 11-20.

Here are some samples.

Printable Task-Cards

Digital (google slides) cards

The premium version includes 166 digital slides and 166 printable activity cards with addition and subtraction to 20 as well as a poster.

How to use the cards

The students use the cards for visual help/practice. They can color or place counters on the printable cards to get to the answer when adding and cover the counters on the 10 frames when subtracting. Each card has the numbers represented with 10 base blocks as well for the students to see the sum or to mark and subtract. This way the students will get familiar with the base 10 blocks representation. If you don’t have counters you can use any little objects that fit in the circles. Laminating the cards will allow the students to use dry-erase markers and correct mistakes easily and will allow you to use them multiple times. The digital google slides include counters that the students can drag and numbers to place for the answer.

I hope that you find this resource useful.
